2018, Budapest

Our office entry together with Korzó Studio for the budapest south gate international master plan design competition ,was based on architectural quality and feasibility .In our final report, the jury stressed: "Budapest's scale and its urban design are fully taken into account by the plan".

As part of the 2030 Budapest Long term Development, the Budapest South Gate International Master Plan Design Competition was a high demanding and abitious project ,targeting the future of one of the most promising cities of Europe.

The development is aiming to create a livable and ecomomic city quarter on the bank of the Soroksari branch of the river Danube in multiple phases, for 12.000 university students and staffwith up-to-date communal accomodation and living quarters. An important consideration is theeconomic enhancement could be achieved that can catalyse the future development of the wider area. The new residential functions, sport facilities, high quality green areas will make the new city quarter attractive and available for the whole capital of Budapest. The life of the university quarter and that of the leisure/recreation facilities will be fittingly complemented of competitive sport and the high number of notable international sport events. The optimal exploitation of the huge natural and urbanistic potential of the area will thus become a possibility.
Our fundamental aim is to encourage communal transport, support bycicle and pedestrian movement, to allow a city of walking. Therefore, we propose sub-centers, public squares filled with a host of functions. The unique urban character and atmosphere brings about identity, that can be an organic southerrn continuation of the historic Budapest city fabric on the left bank of the Danube.
The sports, recreational and nature protection areas between the main and branch branchs of the Danube are ideally mingled with the urbane residential blocks, services and miscellaneous functions envisaged between Soroksari Road and the Soroksari branch of the Danube. Arrangement of the student housing units forms flexible structure of blocks that provides maximal mobilty, efficient energy consumption and environment conscious operation.
